BREATH ANALYSIS SYSTEMS

Breath analysis systems

Breath-markers for disease diagnosis

<Breath-markers associated with specific diseases>

- In exhaled breath, there are lots of volatile organic compound gases closely related to diseases.

- For instance, acetone with a sweet smell is detected in the mouth-exhaled breath of diabetes, and

ammonia gas with a fishy smell is found in the breath of liver and kidney dysfunction patients.

  Such gases are called breath-markers.

- Detecting breath-markers, we can diagnose disease without time-wasting blood/urine tests,

expensive image takings, and dangerous examinations such as biopsy.

- Performed with portable gas sensors, routine screening of diseases and even their early detection

  could be possible.

Hand-held breath analyzers

- Breath-marker selective gas sensors are integrated into a breath sampling tube with several

  complementary systems.

- With the hand-held analyzer, we can monitor metabolic activities in our body and several diseases.

- Our laboratory focuses on the development of fat bun monitoring breath analyzers and helicobacter

  pylori infection detection sensors.

Miniaturization

<Miniaturization of current breath analyzers into a chip>

- Our laboratory aims at reducing the size of the current setting into a chip-scale for their integration in

smartphones and other small electronic devices.

- For this, we are designing breath samplers, sensor arrays, and other systems, as well as sensing materials.
